Abstract |
Miroslav Havel came to Waterford from Czechoslovakia in 1947 for a three month stay and stayed to become Waterford Crystal's chief designer. A superb biography of this remarkable man's life and his impact on Irish cut glass. 271 pages. 2 sections 57 b/w. A superb read written by the maestro's son. It gives a good insight into the issues that a designer has to face not to mention the problems of wartime Czechoslovakia. Havel is without doubt one if the 20th Century's top glass designers. His work was influenced by his studies in Czechoslovakia and the collection of Antique Waterford glass in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. How he translated this was strongly influenced by his own ideas and the need to be cost effective. Added by: biblioadmin Last edited by: biblioadmin |
